How Do I Plan to Innovate?

The world is constantly evolving, and it is up to the classroom to evolve with it. The purpose of the education system. is to prepare students for the world after the classroom; therefore, if the classroom is not innovative then it is obsolete.
Below you can browse through, my proposal, implementation plan, and the literature review I have compiled to support how I plan to innovate the classroom. Since my focus is on the high school classroom, I feel as though the flipped classroom will work well in making students more independent college/career ready.
I hope to have peaked your interest. If you choose to continue reading, you will find:
- Innovation proposal-What I am proposing and the reasoning behind it.
- Literature Review- The research behind blended learning and more specifically the flipped classroom.
- Implementation Timeline- If I were to implement this plan in my district, what would the ideal timeline look like.

What am I proposing?

To conclude, what has been said. I hopefully leave you with a spark of an idea, and a list of books I want to read, in case you want to learn with me.

Austen, D. (n.d.). AI for Educators.
Based on the summary of this book and the reviews, this book details how AI can be useful to teachers on the planning end of the teaching equation. I am adding this book to my reading list because whether I use it or not AI is here to stay. It is important to know the various ways to ethically use AI in and around the classroom before I can show my students how to use it. I cannot be upset if my students use AI unethically if I don’t know how to use it ethically.

Heath, C., & Heath, D. (2010). Switch how to change things when change is hard. Crown Business.
In this book, the authors detail how to change a persons mindset. Based on the summary, they detail why some people have a hard time creating a change and even keeping up with that change over time. So after reading The Growth Mindset by Dweck, I felt it was important to look for strategies on how to keep the growth mindset.

Itō, J., & Howe, J. (2019). Whiplash: How to survive our faster future. Grand Central Publishing.
When watching Ito’s video about innovation, I felt as though he had more to say; so, I went looking for it. I found his book Whiplash: how to survive our faster future. Based on his TedTalk, I added this book to my reading list in order to better understand how to adapt to our world that is quickly evolving due to innovation.

Miller, M. (2023). AI for educators: Learning strategies, teacher efficiencies, and a vision for an artificial intelligence future. Ditch That Textbook, whose printing operation is a division of Dave Burgess Consulting, Incorporated.
Similar to Austen’s book, I chose to read this book in order to better understand how to use AI ethically. The difference is this book seems to encompass both the teacher and the student side of the equation. I plan to read this book to better understand how to teach students how AI can help them in this ever evolving world we live in.
